Friends,
The Russian invasion of Ukraine brings our common humanity into sharp focus and ignites an urgent desire to help. On Tuesday and Wednesday, May 17 & 18, Jeff Feero will be here with the Alex Šepkus collection to help raise funds for Ukrainian relief.
These efforts are critical to the survival of millions of displaced and traumatized families. RAZOM will receive our donation, but Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, World Food Program, and United Way are other worthy and effective organizations to consider in this crisis.
Please come to the show and welcome Jeff, have a slice of Honey Babka, and try on some inspired and uplifting jewelry. There’s never been a better time to add a new Šepkus piece to your fine jewelry collection. Or a better reason.
Peace, Hanna Cook-Wallace
From the Alex Šepkus team in New York: “These past few weeks we have been hurting witnessing the invasion of Ukraine and the devastations of war. There are people in the Alex Šepkus family who had to call their families to tell them to leave their homes, and go westward when the news of the first missiles hit. So far everyone is safe and in hiding. As we try to hold each other up, it is a comfort we cling to. Across Eastern Europe, people are again experiencing the physical, psychological, and emotional effects of war and occupation. Alex was Lithuanian and had applied for asylum from Soviet rule in the late 80’s. His team has always been and is international: Lithuanian, Ukrainian, Japanese, Polish, Columbian, Romanian, Ecuadorian, and American. As such, the pain of war and the memory of occupation is deeply felt. We feel it around us in NYC as well. We are sharing a photo of Natasha hammering in NYC. Alex, a Lithuanian artist met another artist from Ukraine where she has been able to understand his vision and help bring his textures to gold.”
